Residence and work in Norway

The grounds that allow one to apply for a residence or work permit are regulated by the Immigration Act from 1988 and the Immigration Regulations from 1990.

Examples of persons who may work or reside in Norway include:

  1. Students who have been admitted to an approved educational institution
  2. Persons who are considered specialists in a particular field
  3. Au pairs
  4. Seasonal workers
  5. Close family members (generally spouses and children)
  6. Persons who need protection (refugees/asylum seekers)
  7. Trainees
