On Monday the 13th of February, the Norwegian Deputy Head of Mission, Jan Håkon Olsson, participated in a field visit at Nkhwazi Health Centre in Mchinji. The visit included a symbolic handover of essential drugs from the development partners to the Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Jean Kalilani.

“This is a day of hope” Malawi’s Finance Minister, Dr. Lipenga, announced Wednesday last week. The reason for hope relates to the newly signed agreements between the Malawian government and the British, the Irish and the Norwegian governments on financial support to secure the food harvest the next years.

On Friday 24th of February representatives from the Norwegian Embassy visited Kachere juvenile prison in Lilongwe with company from UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) in New York. The purpose of the visit was for the UN to see a prison school project currently underway. DPKO is interested in the project because they want to duplicate it in post conflict countries.

On Wednesday the 8th of February the Norwegian Ambassador participated in NASFAM’s (the National Smallholder Farmers’ Association of Malawi) tree planting programme for the 2011/2012 growing season. It is the ninth year that NASFAM runs a tree planting programme.
