List of Active Projects, Programmes & Partners in Malawi

 Promotion of LGBT Rights

To increase awareness of the general population on legal, policy, culture and religious issues affecting LGBT people and improve the legal and policy environment to LGBT people.


Capacity Building for Statistics and Planning Phase II

Financial support for a long-term advisor to strengthen the Malawi National Statistics System.


Financial Support for Banja La  Mtsogolo Programme of Work Phase II (BLM PoW II)

Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights Programme aiming to scale up the delivery of quality, cost-effective sexual and reproductive health services, particularly family planning services, in Malawi.


Institutional Development Project for the National Audit Office of Malawi, Phase III

  • Implementing Partner: National Audit Office  
  • Duration: 2009-2013
  • Contribution: NOK 18,000,000                        

To improve good governance and democratic practices in Malawi by increasing the capacity of the National Audit Office by making it more independent.


Malawi Lake Basin Programme, Phase II

Support rural poor households in the programme area by transforming subsistence and emergent smallholders in agriculture and fisheries into business oriented enterprises.


Support to KuNgoni’s Capacity Enhancement and Outreach Project

To guide Malawians to a deeper understanding of their society and culture, by preserving traditional knowledge and the skills of local communities.


National Programme for Managing Climate Change in Malawi


Improving Prison Conditions for Women and Youth, Phase II

Speedy trials and access to justice for girl child offenders, women and vulnerable males facilitated. Improved living conditions for inmates with young offenders (boys and girls) attending quality schools. Systematic documentation, coordination and reporting of incidents of prisoners’ rights violations in prison and police cells.


Agricultural Development Programme - Support Project (ADP-SP)
  • Implementing Partner: Malawi Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security
  • Duration: 2008-2013
  • Contribution: NOK 50,000,000                        

To improve food security and generate agricultural growth through increased productivity of food and cash crops, while ensuring sustainable use of natural resources.


Management for Adaptation to Climate Change: An Integrated Model for the Central Watersheds of Lake Malawi

  • Implementing Partner: Total Land Care
  • Duration: 2008-2013
  • Contribution: NOK 31,000,000                        

To reduce deforestation by improving the economic use and management of natural resources to wood energy and construction materials to meet farm and household needs on a sustainable basis.


Consolidated Arts and Communication Programme

To employ the arts for both individual and community development, and education, so that more people can benefit from cultural, artistic and development experiences and realize a significant national impact.          


Cultural Support Scheme Phase II

The Goal of the Project is to effectively promote cultural expressions and the cultural industries of Malawi by strengthen COSOMA’s capacity to process and prepare royalties for right owners.


Support to the Plan/Strategy of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Phase II

To increase the effectiveness of the ACB as a contribution to preventing and controlling corrupt practices in Malawi.


Support to Mount Mulanje Biodiversity Conservation Project

To maintain the vital watershed and to benefit local communities by establishing sustainable management of the natural resources vital to Malawi’s economic growth and environmental protection.


Improving the Livelihoods of Malawian Smallholder Farmers (NASFAM Phase III)

To improve the lives of smallholder farmers by promoting farming as a business and by delivering programmes that produce economic and social benefits for members, their communities and the country.
