Application Fees

Application fees applicable as of 1 January 2015.

The application fee must be paid before submitting the application.
Visa fees can be paid in MWK equivalent to EUR/NOK.
The fee (case processing fee, which is NON-REFUNDABLE, regardless the outcome of the application) must be paid to:

National Bank of Malawi, Capital City Branch Lilongwe.
Account name: Royal Norwegian Embassy Visa Account.
Account no: 1000839082

The visa fee rates:

EUR 60

or MWK equivalent

All applicants (Schengen Visa max 90 days) 

EUR 35

or MWK equivalent

Children 6-12 (until the age of 12 years minus one day) 

 

No visa fee for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:

  1. Children under six years.
  2. Citizens of countries outside the EEA area who are closely related to an EEA national. When the EEA national is exercising his/her right of free movement according to the EEA/EU agreement.
  3. School pupils, students, university or university college level (postgraduate) students and accompanying teachers, when the purpose of the trip is for studies or educational training.
  4. Researchers travelling to carry out scientific research.
  5. Representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations.

The visa fee may be waived or reduced when:

  1. It serves to promote culture, sports, foreign policy, development policy or other areas of vital public interest or for humanitarian reasons.
  2. The applicant has a diplomatic passports or service passport and presents a "Note Verbal" from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

 Fees for long stay permits for Norway (can be paid in equivalent MWK):

  • Renewal (if you apply after your previous permit has expired, you will have to pay NOK 5.900

Fee exemptions:

Residence permits:

  • Children who are younger than 18 when the application is submitted.
  • EEA nationals, or their close family members, who have the right of residency or are applying for an EEA residence card.
  • When you apply for a renewal, the fee is reduced (see the table above). However, if you apply for a renewal after your permit has expired, you have to pay a full fee.

 Citizenship:

  • Children under the age of 18 do not have to pay a fee when they apply for Norwegian citizenship. It is also free to give notification of Norwegian citizenship, to apply for retention of one’s Norwegian citizenship and to apply to be released from the Norwegian citizenship.
