Step-by-Step Procedure

Before applying for a Schengen visa:

  • Make sure that you have a passport or official travel document, which is valid for at least three months beyond your intended stay in the Schengen area.
  • Make sure your passport has been issued within the last 10 years.
  • Make sure your passport contains two blank visa-pages.

How to apply:

Read carefully and follow the instructions to register an application and book an appointment online:

  1. Register the application on the Application Portal https://selfservice.udi.no/. If you are applying for a short stay visa, the application cannot be submitted earlier than 3 months before the start of the intended visit.
  2. Choose the relevant checklist
  3. Check the boxes on the checklist in order to confirm which documents you need to submit and answer the questionnaire on the checklist.
  4. Ensure that mandatory requirements are complete and bring all supporting documents. Please note that the Embassy in some cases may ask for further documentation than specified in the checklist.
  5. Pay the Visa fee of € 60 (link) to the National Bank of Malawi, Capital City Branch Lilongwe. Account name: Royal Norwegian Embassy Visa Account. Account no: 1000.839.082.
  6. Ordinary and Service passport holders should proceed to the Visa Application Centre to submit the application and register your biometric data. Bring copies of all required documents as well as all ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS for checking at the Visa Application Centre. ALL documents must be in ENGLISH or NORWEGIAN, or translated into one of these two languages. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all relevant documents are included in the application.
  7. For Diplomatic Passport holders contact the Embassy by calling 01770461/481 to schedule an Appointment. The Appointments are open Tuesday-Thursday from 09:00 - 10:00

Important information:

  • Applications lacking required documents will be sent back to VFS Application centre to reschedule their appointments to a time when they are ready to submit a complete file. If the applicant still chooses to submit an incomplete application, the decision will be made on that basis.
  • Processing time for Schengen Visas is up to 15 calendar days. In some cases, for example if further  documentation is needed or the case has to be sent to the Immigration Services in Norway or representing countries, it may take up to 30-60 days (processing time).
  • A visa does not guarantee you entry into the Schengen area. The border police at your Schengen destination may request to see documentation, for example a letter of invitation, hotel reservation, medical insurance and proof of sufficient funds. Failure to present this documentation at the border may result in refusal of entry, even if you have a visa.
