It is my privilege to welcome you to Malawi, and to the web-pages of the Norwegian Embassy here in Lilongwe. We aim to provide you with facts and information about Norwegian-Malawian relations as well as Norwegian businesses and non-governmental organizations operating in Malawi. Malawi has been an important partner country for Norway since 1996, and the Norwegian government has committed itself to assist development efforts done by the Malawian government. Norwegian development cooperation with Malawi is also emphasising on strenghtening civil society, primarily trhough partnerships between Malawian and Norwegian NGOs. As we always strive to improve our web pages, your comments and reflections are welcomed.

The Embassy is primarily committed to areas of work related to the extensive development cooperation between Norway and Malawi. The development cooperation can be divided in cooperation in the following 6 major fields/sectors:

1) Health Sector support and HIV/AIDS
2) Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Climate Change
3) Budget Support, Anti-Corruption and Financial Management
4) Gender equality and gender related issues
5) Cooperation on Culture
6) The "One-UN" Reform.

Within these fields the Embassy is also facilitating cooperation between public institutions in Norway and Malawi, most notably intitutional support for the National Statistics Office provided by Statistics Norway, and support to the Reserve Bank of Malawi provided by the Norwegian Central Bank.
